Blog Prompt #7 (April 1 2019–in class)

For your seventh blog prompt, let’s get a start drafting your Research Project. Because we have several different kinds of projects, how you get started will vary.

First, post the topic portion from your Research Proposal and your preliminary thesis. Then, let’s get started on your Researched Analysis.

  • If you chose to analyze a specific piece of fiction or nonfiction (tweets), you will need to identify at least two specific stylistic variations and/or sentence manipulation and discuss how and why they contribute to the theme of the piece.

I have decided to do my research paper on the “I Have a Dream” Speech by Martin Luther King Jr. This speech, in my opinion is one of the most emotional speeches I’ve ever read in my life.  I feel that because this speech talks about such a big controversial issue that went on and still goes on today in society it will be a great choice. I also feel that because this speech is so understanding, relatable and deep that it will be easier for me to make connections and analyze the speech. Knowing the history of Martin Luther King, what he did and what he stands for I will have a lot to talk about in my research paper.
Preliminary thesis: I will breaking down each paragraph and analyzing them as far as what grammatically makes the purpose of his speech stronger.

My topic is on the characters in The Lord of the Ring how their dialogue gives a description on them. Most writers give a small description of their characters, but through their actions and their words our minds create them more descriptively. I will discuss how the different characters all have their own dialect based on their kind. My preliminary thesis: The elven are considered a prestigious kind, the hobbits are considered homely, and the dwarves are considered greedy.

Inspired by a classmate, I am doing my research paper on the “Pearl Harbor Address to the Nation” by Franklin D. Roosevelt. This address to the nation was in regards to the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941. This attack was the reason the United States entered War World 2. Every student learns about this in school. This is history and this president was in office 3 terms. He led us out of the depression and he was in office when we entered World War 2. From my research I have already done on this speech. Franklin D. Roosevelt did indeed write this speech himself. I will be analyzing the different use of words and the lengths of his sentences in this speech and will analyzing the whole speech. I have it printed out and will be making notes about the grammar and in order to analyze it more closely.
